Ainsley and Grey have been making scrubs and skincare since 2016.

It all began with an idea during break time in 4th grade. We thought it would be fun to learn how to make lip balms and bath bombs. After we made our first batch, we then made a bigger batch that we sold to our families and friends for Valentine’s Day gifts.

The next year, we started to learn about business concepts. Our parents wanted us to understand that our sales should cover our costs. By sixth grade, we were starting to design labels and test recipes. On a cold December day, we took Sweet Skins to a table outside our building. It turned out that people loved the idea for their holiday shopping so much that we sold out quickly!

Our Sweet Skins activity was upended during 2020 due to Covid. However, during Covid we also learned about the issue of food insecurity in NYC when we saw an appeal from Food Bank for NYC. Their work fighting to help families and children in NYC overcome food insecurity caught our attention. Covid has caused a 40% increase in food insecurity among families in NYC.

Since Covid has also prevented kids like us from being able to volunteer for community projects and activities, we realized we could turn Sweet Skins into our own community service project by donating our proceeds to benefit Food Bank of NYC.

That is how it slowly all came together to what it is now!

Spirit of gifting,

for our community

Happy Holidays, and Thank You!
